Fall on the California coast provides the perfect setting to refine your landscape photography skills. Under the motto, "Great images are made, not taken," this workshop emphasizes pre-visualization, light, and planning to help you bring your creative vision to life. All photography levels and cameras are welcome, including iPhone/Mobile photographers.

What to Expect:

  • Interactive Fieldwork: Hands-on guidance in iconic Big Sur locations, focusing on light, water, and the interplay between the two.

  • Special Event: A group networking hosted dinner on Friday at 7:00 pm at the iconic Cypress Inn.

  • Post-Workshop Portfolio Review: Oct 15, 2026 – Share your images and receive group feedback during an online session. Time: 6:00 pm PDT

Capacity: Limited to 12 participants for personalized instruction.

Spouses, Partners and Friends are all welcome at the Friday dinner. Workshop locations are all public areas and offer hiking and viewing opportunities.

About Your Instructors

Meet the Instructors

John Todd
With over 30 years of professional experience, John Todd is a highly accomplished photographer and the lead instructor for this team of talented professionals. As the owner and manager of International Sports Images (ISI Photos), John oversees photography services for U.S. Soccer, Stanford Athletics, and Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes. His portfolio includes coverage of world-class events like the Olympic Games, FIFA World Cups, College Football National Championships, and the Mavericks Surf Competition.

John’s work has been featured in renowned publications such as Time Magazine, The New York Times, USA Today, Sports Illustrated, and ESPN The Magazine. His photography has even been displayed at the Smithsonian Institution in a women-in-sports exhibit. Alongside his professional achievements, John is a dedicated educator, regularly teaching in Stanford’s Continuing Studies Program.

David Bernal
David Bernal began his photographic journey in grade school, quickly falling in love with the art of capturing moments and scenes. Over the years, he has refined his skills in landscape, nature, and sports photography, turning his passion into a career. In 2010, David joined International Sports Images (ISI Photos) as a sports and action photographer, documenting events for the U.S. Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams, Stanford Athletics, and other prestigious clients.

David’s work has been featured in Sports Illustrated, ESPN The Magazine, Men’s Fitness, the San Francisco Chronicle, and numerous websites. Beyond his published portfolio, David has led workshops and classes, teaching techniques in landscape photography, sports action, and photography software. For David, the true joy of photography lies in the camaraderie and shared experiences it fosters with fellow photographers.

Dayton Mistfeldt
Dayton Mistfeldt is a passionate nature and wildlife photographer whose work highlights the profound beauty of the natural world and outdoor adventures. With a keen eye for capturing landscapes, wildlife, and the human connection to nature, Dayton’s photography invites viewers to experience the world through a lens of wonder and reverence.

Dayton’s expertise is deeply rooted in his extensive experience in Yosemite National Park. He has helped lead over seven photography workshops to this iconic location and has photographed the park upwards of 50 times, making him uniquely skilled at capturing its timeless beauty. Dayton’s dedication to his craft and his ability to connect with fellow photographers make him a valued member of the team.
